Go Karting Guinness World Record for Huntington’s Disease Awareness

Slideways donate

We’re thrilled to announce that Cam Wilson, a Gold Coast V8 ute driver and long-time friend of Huntingtons Queensland, has just set a second Guinness World Record!

Cam achieved the record for “Karting – Greatest distance travelled in 24 hours indoors (Team)” in support of Huntingtons Queensland and to raise awareness of Huntington’s Disease.

The Wilson family have been involved with Huntingtons Queensland for the past decade, following the diagnosis of Murray, Cam’s father, with the disease. Murray sadly lost his battle with the disease last year, and Cam lives with the knowledge that he too may have inherited the Huntington’s disease gene.

Cam and his incredible team – Dan Tuite, Tim Harris, Daniel Goddard, Chris Hinton and Nathan Roach – drove 774 kilometres in a 24 hour timeframe! That makes a whopping 4,868 laps with an average lap time of 17.72 seconds, and an average three-second changeover between drivers. Cam and his incredible team

“I’m very proud of the team for their efforts and I’m stoked to share this success with them on this occasion,” Cam said.

“Claiming a second world record is a bonus knowing the difference the money we raise will make to the lives of Queensland families coping with the detrimental effects of Huntington’s disease.”

Through fundraising site everydayhero.com.au, Cam and his team have raised more than $8,500. If you would like to contribute, you can still donate here.

Our amazing community just keep finding ways to raise awareness and funding.

Peta Banks is walking an astonishing 1000kms over the next 12 months, and is already more than half-way towards her goal of $1000. That’s $1 for every kilometre – how many of those kilometres can you and your friends sponsor? Donate here.

Leisa Tuite recently completed her first triathlon, and finished 19th out of more than 200 competitors – congratulations!! She will now be competing in another triathlon on April 19th in support of Huntingtons Queensland. You can donate to Leisa’s EverdayHero account here.

Amazing work, Peta and Leisa – we are all behind you!
